Dig It! The Fossil Workshop is an
interactive educational destination where children dig in
Jurassic sand quarries for their favorite 500 to 600 million
year old fossils. This 2 hour science presentation will
allow your students to learn about dinosaurs, fossils, paleontology,
geology and prehistoric life.
Alligned with State Standards
The
curriculum for the live Learn It! Play It! Dig It!
field trip presentation is in line with state standards
and grade level requirements. Some of the fossils your students
will handle and learn about include: an Otodus Shark's Tooth,
one of the largest recorded sharks in history, a sea scorpion
over 300 million years old, and an Odontochile Spiniferum,
approximately 365 million years old.
At Dig it! our staff is well trained
to help the children learn:
Dig It! The Fossil Workshop Field Trip
Every child that participates in a Learn
It! Play It! Dig It! field trip has the opportunity
to learn about paleontology, geology, dinosaurs, fossils,
prehistoric life and much more at the Dig It! Prehistoric
Learning Center. They then get to apply that knowledge hands-on
by digging for authentic 500 to 600 million year old fossils
in the Dig It! quarries. Once they selected their favorite
fossil, they are taught how to properly clean and prepare
it at a real-life paleontology prep station. Finally, they
get to take home their prized specimen.
The Learn It! Play It! Dig It! program is filled
with verbal instruction, visual displays and educational
play opportunities that all serve to reinforce the principles
learned through hands-on application, the proven best method
for children to learn. The Dig it facility also offers a
Prehistoric Learning Center where various rare fossils are
on display and children can browse fun and interesting dinosaur-themed
books. This 2 hour Dig It! experience is priced low for
school groups and for lower-income schools some funding
may be available from the Dig
It! Learn It! Foundation. Over the past four years,
Dig It! The Fossil Workshop has completed over 1000
field trips, teaching and inspiring thousands of students
in the areas of paleontology and geology.
In summary, we believe that all students can benefit greatly
from the hands-on educational Learn It! Play It! Dig
It! field trip. We look forward to your students being
the next to benefit from this wonderful program.
